You might have heard that vinegar is one of nature’s miracle treatments, but does vinegar help get rid of pimples fast? Here’s the low down on this pimple curing remedy. Is it just a kitchen staple or a medicine cabinet necessity?

Why Vinegar Is So Effective

Vinegar is a natural drying antiseptic. Just like witch hazel, vinegar can be applied to the skin after cleansing as a natural toner to help remove impurities and absorb excess oil. The antiseptic qualities of vinegar, which kill the bacteria that cause pimples, could be the reason why it clears up blemishes quickly and safely. Another way that vinegar works to clear up pimples is by restoring the proper pH balance to the skin. However, because much of the information about using vinegar as a cure for blemishes is anecdotal, there are no hard specifics on the timeframe for results. What works quickly for one individual might take longer to work for another because of differences in the skin’s condition or even individual body chemistry. So, in summary, there is no specific timeframe that vinegar might work to get rid of pimples.

How to Use Vinegar for Pimples

When it comes to home remedies, not all vinegar is created equal. Rather than reach for white distilled vinegar, you’ll need to purchase pure, unfiltered apple cider vinegar to treat skin care and digestive ailments. Apple cider vinegar is available at fine grocers and specialty health food and vitamin stores and it can be used for many conditions. Once you become familiar with its many uses, keep apple cider vinegar on hand as a natural remedy staple. If you hope to clear a pimple overnight, here’s how to use it as a natural remedy.

External Method

apple cider vinegar

There are two different ways to treat pimples with apple cider vinegar. The first option is to apply the vinegar directly on the blemish using a ratio of one part vinegar to three parts water. Dip a cotton ball in the prepared astringent and apply it directly on the blemish for a minimum of 10 minutes or overnight. Reapply several times during the day to continue drying out the pimple, and be sure to use a moisturizer after the treatment to prevent the skin from becoming overly dry, which could cause the sebum glands to overproduce and exacerbate an outbreak.

Internal Method

The second way of curing a pimple with apple cider vinegar is through ingestion. To help remove toxins and impurities in your bloodstream, mix two tablespoons of vinegar with a glass of water and drink the mixture once per day.

These methods can be used independently of each other or combined for maximum results.

Results May Vary

No matter who you are, chances are you’ve had a pimple rear its ugly head right at the most inopportune time. Perhaps it’s your wedding day, or the prom, or even a much anticipated date night, and you are desperately searching for a quick cure for an embarrassing pimple. However, keep in mind that although vinegar is packed with vitamins and minerals and has a natural antiseptic property, its cure rate for pimples may vary. Just like any natural treatment, it can’t hurt to try, but be prepared for disappointment if it doesn’t work as quickly as you expected. The next time a pimple makes its appearance, test out the vinegar, and if it works, keep a bottle on hand for future outbreaks.

Homemade sugar scrub is the most natural way to soften, exfoliate and to freshen up the skin. Sugar is a natural sweetener that can also be used as a natural beauty regimen. Its fine texture gently exfoliates the skin

without leaving harmful residue that can clog the pores. It has moisturizing properties that prevents the skin from drying. It is safe to use even on children’s sensitive skin and to soothe chapped lips.

Why Use Homemade Sugar Scrubs?

Homemade sugar scrub can help reverse early signs of aging. Exposure from pollution, dirt, stress and sun’s ultra violet rays damage the skin cells. This leads to skin dullness and develops early signs of aging like fine lines and uneven skin tone. Homemade sugar scrub creates a gentle abrasion to even out the skin tone. It removes accumulated dead and damaged skin cells caused by sun exposure and pollution. The gentle massaging application of homemade sugar scrub on the skin enhances blood circulation. This increases collagen production and skin cell regeneration to prevent wrinkles and other signs of aging.

Homemade sugar scrub prevents acne, whiteheads, blackheads, breakouts and other skin blemishes. Excess oil, dirt and dead skin cells clog the pores. This becomes a good feeding ground for bacteria which develops into acne, blackheads or whiteheads. Skin exfoliation using homemade sugar scrub removes dead skin cells, dirt and excess oil without drying the skin. It is tough on cleansing the skin while keeping its natural moisture. It increases the flow of oxygen and other nutrients on the skin to heal acne and other skin problems from the inside out. The moisturizing effect of homemade sugar scrub can decrease the symptoms of skin diseases like eczema and psoriasis.

Homemade sugar scrub softens even the toughest skin. As a homemade foot scrub it can help reduce problems with your feet, such as calloused and cracked heels. It is gentle yet abrasive enough to assist in removing callouses on the heels and soles of the feet. It moisturizes the heels to keep them soft and smooth. It also whitens dark knees and elbows. Regular exfoliation using homemade sugar scrub improves skin regeneration to whiten and soften knees and elbows.

Homemade sugar scrub or homemade facial scrubs help maintain younger looking skin. It tones and tightens the pores of the skin. It has glycolic acid that rejuvenates and keeps fresh looking skin. It has alpha hydroxy acids, an anti aging compound found in fruits and milk sugars. It maintains skin’s youthful beauty by balancing the skin’s natural oil and allowing new skin to develop. Thus, frequent massaging with homemade sugar scrub promotes continuous skin renewal that reveals younger and healthier skin.

Beauty Sleep – the science

Beauty sleep is not a myth and sleep does lessen the severity of wrinkles in the face and neck, at least temporarily. Part of this is due to a decline in body temperature and a shift in body position. The body cools in anticipation of bed time (about half a degree) and to do so, the circulatory system increases blood flow to the skin. This is why the cheeks often flush at night.

What does it mean to be “radiant”? It generally means the color of the skin moves closer to the color of blood. A radiator in a house or car movers hot liquid around to distribute heat, and so does the circulatory system move warm blood around and skin tone changes to affect body temperature. This is why some people appear more radiant just before bedtime or during sleep.

Collagen and Growth Hormone

Early in the nigh time sleep cycle, people typically have a surge in growth hormone. This period of deep sleep, stages 3 and 4 sleep, contributes to what people call “beauty sleep” as secretion of growth hormone helps repair and rebuild body tissues like muscle and bone. Many of the body’s tissues also show increased cell production and slower breakdown of proteins during deep sleep. Since proteins are the building blocks needed for cell growth and for repair of damage from factors like stress and ultraviolet rays, deep sleep is truly be “beauty sleep.”

Increased growth hormone release is believed to be linked to the fasting state that the body enters during sleep. Contrary to what bodybuilders might want to believe, injections of growth hormone are more effective at stimulating collagen formationthan preventing muscle atrophy. This suggests that naturally occuring growth hormone also plays a big part in maintaining collagen matrix, and hence the appearance of youthfulness.beautysleep

There is some evidence that skin cells regenerate faster at night than during the day. Cell division happens throughout the day, but peaks around 2 am. This is literally renewal and rejuvenation during sleep. The peak in cell division happens even if you stay awake at night, while the surge in growth hormone doesn’t.

Human nighttime sleep is lengthy in comparison with that of many other mammals. Other animals usually don’t have releases of growth hormone during sleep and few other mammals enter a fasting state during sleep. Herbivores continue to digest food throughout their sleep, carnivores gorge themselves on meat which can take up to a day to digest, and rodents wake up periodically to nibble more food. The human sleep-related growth hormone surge may be a mechanism to protect tissue protein against potentially decremental effects of this fast, and also to promote the body’s mobilisation of its fat reserves.

What happens if you don’t get your beauty sleep? It is not just lack of sleep that negatively affects body fat percentage and the risk of chronic disease—poor sleep quality does as well. Deep sleep also helps to negate the bad effects of cortisol. Growth hormone naturally decreases with age and also with increased abdominal fat, leading to a viscious cycle of fatigue, excess stress hormone and increased abdominal fat. It has also been found that sleep deprivartion causes breaks in “skin barrier function and mucous membranes”. Researchers recently found apnea sufferrers who use their CPAP machines look younger and fresher than those who do not.

Activity in parts of the brain that control emotions, decision-making processes, and social interactions is drastically reduced during deep sleep, suggesting that this type of sleep may help people maintain optimal emotional and social functioning while they are awake. This is another benefit of beauty sleep.

Some cosmetic products are susceptible to sunlight and you consequently get more out of them if you use them before bed. Antioxidants such as vitamins C and E will stay active on your skin longer if you apply them at night. (Whether these products truly prevent aging is another question.)

Some people advocate sleeping on your back – as opposed to your side or stomach – in a belief that this position prevents wrinkles. A website produced by the American Academy of Dermatologists suggests that “resting your face on the pillow in the same way every night for years on end also leads to wrinkles.” They suggest sleeping on your back to avoid wrinkles.

Sleep does lessen the severity of wrinkles in the neck and face, at least temporarily. Some smoothing is due to position – lying down diverts the force of gravity. But there’s more to beauty sleep than that – otherwise just lying down to rest in the middle of the day would have the same effect. During sleep the whole body, including the face, perspires more. This moisture on the skin smooths out wrinkles. Some cosmetics make your face looks better by making the skin more moist. Sleep is a natural moisturizer – perspiration during sleep is a natural skin treatment.

Stress has detrimental effects on skin tone; it causes alopecia areata, psoriasis, and atopic dematitis. Chronic stress harms the integrity of the collagen in skin. Sleep deprivation applies stress to the body and leads to unhealthy appearance. Apnea causes much stress to not just the cardiovascular system, but has been shown to affect bone health.
